Investment is 73 billion! State Grid Continuously Launches Heavy Projects

On February 16, the State Grid just launched the Jinshung-Hubei ± 800 kV UHV DC transmission project and Tongshan Pumped Storage Power Station. The total investment of the two projects is 42.7 billion yuan, which can drive upstream and downstream industrial investment to more than 100 billion yuan.
In the past month alone, on March 16, the State Grid again launched two other major projects: Longdong-Shandong ± 800 kV UHV DC project and Yumen pumped storage power station. The total investment of the two projects is 30.4 billion yuan, which can drive the industrial investment to more than 70 billion yuan.
In total, two major projects were launched, and the total investment of the project accounted for about 14% of the planned investment of the State Grid in 2023.
▲ National Grid investment growth over the years
The Longdong-Shandong ± 800 kV UHV DC project started this time from Qingyang Converter Station in Qingyang City, Gansu Province, and ended at Dongping Converter Station in Tai'an City, Shandong Province. It is my country's first "scenery, fire and storage" integrated large-scale integrated energy base transmission project, involving five provinces of Gansu, Shandong, Hebei, Shanxi, and Shaanxi. The total length of the line is 926 kilometers, the rated voltage is ± 800 kV, and the transmission capacity is 8 million kilowatts, it is planned to be completed and put into operation in 2025.
Longdong-Shandong ± 800 kV UHV DC project is to implement the national "14th Five-Year Plan" for electric power development, to meet the reliable transmission of electric power from the large-scale comprehensive energy base of scenery and fire storage in Longdong area, to promote the economic development of the old revolutionary base in Longdong and its surrounding areas, to meet the demand of load growth in the southwest and northwest regions of Shandong power grid, to promote the transformation of the development mode of Shandong power industry and to optimize the energy structure, increase the proportion of green energy.

After completion, it can deliver more than 36 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Shandong every year, further broadening the energy delivery channels in Gansu.
The Yumen Pumped Storage Power Station project has a total investment of 10.2 billion yuan. Four 300000-kilowatt reversible generating units will be installed and connected to the Northwest Power Grid. The designed annual power generation capacity will be 1.528 billion kilowatt-hours, which will effectively improve the peak regulation capacity of the Northwest Power Grid and better ensure the reliable operation of the Northwest Power Grid and the stable transmission of a high proportion of new energy power in Gansu.
As an important national energy base, Gansu is rich in new energy resources and has huge space for future development. In 2022, the annual power generation of wind power, solar energy and other new energy sources in the province will reach 53.8 billion kwh, ranking first in the country. In recent years, Gansu has actively expanded energy transmission channels, built UHV projects from Jiuquan to Hunan, and increased the cross-regional and cross-provincial transmission capacity to 33.9 million kilowatts.
The expected "14th Five-Year Plan" UHV project construction peak is being carried out one after another, let us look forward to the follow-up of other major projects.
