Polaris Transmission and Distribution Network learned that on February 27, the National Development and Reform Commission formally issued an approval for the ± 800 kV UHV DC transmission project from Longdong to Shandong, and the project is about to enter the construction stage.
According to the data, the Longdong DC project is a key project in the national "14th Five-Year Plan" power plan. The project starts in Qingyang, Gansu and ends in Tai'an, Shandong. The total investment is 20.188 billion yuan and the transmission capacity is 8 million kilowatts. The line passes through Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Shandong 5 provinces, the total length of the line is 926.4 kilometers, of which the total length of the line in Gansu is 109.2 kilometers.
It is reported that Gansu Province has sufficient energy resources, especially the wind and solar energy resources in the central and eastern regions. The future economic development will still focus on the new energy industry. Shandong Province, as the country's first experimental area for the conversion of old and new kinetic energy, is actively cultivating and strengthening new kinetic energy and transforming and upgrading traditional kinetic energy. Since 2021, the power load of Shandong Province has increased rapidly. During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, with the supply-side structural reforms and the accelerated implementation of major projects for the conversion of new and old kinetic energy, the economy and society of Shandong Province showed a trend of improving quality and efficiency, and stabilizing and improving. According to the results of the power balance calculated by the State Grid Corporation of China, Shandong Province urgently needs to alleviate a large degree of load gap by 2025.
In order to implement the national "14th Five-Year Plan for Electric Power Development", meet the reliable transmission of electric power from the large-scale comprehensive energy base of scenery and fire storage in Longdong area, promote the economic development of the old revolutionary base in Longdong and its surrounding areas, and meet the demand of load growth in the receiving Shandong power grid in southwest and northwest Shandong, promote the transformation of the development mode of Shandong electric power industry, optimize the energy structure, and increase the proportion of green energy, to improve the overall safe and stable operation level of the system and the reliability of power supply, the State Grid Corporation of China plans to build the Longdong-Shandong ± 800kV UHV DC transmission project.
The main construction contents of Longdong DC project include: new ± 800kV Longdong converter station at the sending end (hereinafter referred to as "Longdong converter station", including supporting grounding electrode system at the sending end, 110kV external power supply line and interval expansion of 110kV Maping substation at the opposite end); new ± 800kV Taian West converter station at the receiving end (hereinafter referred to as "Taian West converter station", including supporting receiving grounding electrode system and 110kV external power supply line); the newly-built ± 800kV Longdong-Shandong DC transmission line is about 933.9km; In addition, there are 7 110kV, 220kV, 330kV, 500kV and 750kV AC lines involved in the relocation, with a total length of about 7.45km.
The project DC line starts from Longdong Converter Station in Xifeng District, Qingyang City, Gansu Province, and ends at Tai'an West Converter Station in Dongping County, Tai'an City, Shandong Province. Passing through Gansu (Qingyang City), Shaanxi (Yan'an City), Shanxi (Linfen City, Changzhi City), Hebei (Handan City), Shandong (Liaocheng City, Jinan City, Tai'an City), a total of 5 provinces, 8 prefecture-level cities, 30 districts and counties.
The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in January 2025.

Converter Station Works
New Construction of ± 800kV Longdong Converter Station
(1) Converter station
Longdong Converter Station is located in Shifeng Village, Shishe Township, Xifeng District, Qingyang City, Gansu Province. The capacity of converter transformer is considered as (24 4)× 415MVA, with rated converter capacity of 8000MW,± 800kV outgoing line for 1 time, grounding electrode outgoing line for 1 time, 750kV AC outgoing line for 10 times (prospective outgoing line for 12 times), and 110kV power line outgoing line for 1 time outside the station.
(2) grounding electrode and grounding electrode line
The grounding pole at the sending end is located in Fanwan Village, Xiangle Town, Ning County, Qingyang City, Gansu Province. The design voltage level of the grounding electrode line at the sending end is 35kV, and the line length is about 29.2km. It passes through Xifeng District (4.2km), Heshui County (2.7km) and Ning County (22.3km) of Qingyang City, Gansu Province.
(3) External power supply line of 110kV station
The converter station at the sending end is provided with 1 standby power supply, which is connected by 110kV Maping substation outside the station. In this phase, the 110kV Maping Substation needs to expand a 110kV outgoing line interval and build a 110kV backup power line to Longdong Converter Station. The line length is about 21.8km, passing through Ning County (15.2km) and Xifeng District (5.6km) of Qingyang City, Gansu Province.
New Construction of ± 800kV Tai'an West Converter Station
(1) Converter station
Tai'an West Converter Station is located in Linmazhuang Village, Jieshan Town, Dongping County, Tai'an City, Shandong Province. The capacity of the converter transformer is considered as (24 4)× 415MVA. The rated converter capacity is 8000MW, with 1 outgoing line of ± 800kV, 1 outgoing line of grounding electrode, 8 outgoing lines of 500kV AC, 1 outgoing line of 110kV power line outside the station, and 2 300Mvar cameras are set in the station.
(2) grounding electrode and grounding electrode line
The receiving end grounding pole is located in Xinfeng Village, Grade 7 Town, Yanggu County, Liaocheng City, Shandong Province. The design voltage level of the receiving grounding electrode line is 35kV, and the line length is about 69.3km, of which 57km is erected on the same tower with the DC line and 12.3km is erected separately, passing through Dongping County (4.5km), Feicheng City (11.1km), Pingyin County (30.0km), Liaocheng City Donga County (22.7km) and Yanggu County (1.0km).
(3) External power supply line of 110kV station
The receiving end converter station is provided with 1 standby power supply, which is connected by 110kV power distribution device of 220kV anlin substation outside the station. In this phase, a 110kV backup power line will be built to Taian West Converter Station, with a length of about 17.2km (including 0.1km cable), passing through Feicheng City, Taian City, Shandong Province (6.7km) and Dongping County (10.5km).

± 800kV Longdong-Shandong DC Line New Construction Project
The newly-built 800kV Longdong-Shandong DC line has a total length of about 933.9km, passing through five provinces of Gansu (109.2km), Shaanxi (178.122km), Shanxi (334.878km), Hebei (178.5km) and Shandong (133.2km). Except for Shanxi Province, which has 19.1km split into two unipolar lines, the rest are erected by bipolar.
AC Line Relocation Project
This project involves the relocation of 7 AC lines, including: ① 110kV Xiping line: the dismantled length is about 0.95km, and the newly built line is about 0.7km;② 330kV Xile I line: the dismantled length is about 0.65km, and the newly built line is about 0.7km;③ 110kV west joint line: dismantled 0.3km, newly built 0.35km;④ 750kV summer road II circuit: dismantled about 1.3km, newly built about 1.7km;⑤ 220kV Le Xun (Yongle ~ Anze) II Circuit: Demolition length is about 1.0km, and new construction is about 2.2km;⑥ 220kV Huoming I and II circuits: the length of the demolition section is about 2 × 0.6km, and the new construction is about 2 × 0.9km;⑦ 500kV Huolin I line: the demolition length is about 0.6km, and the new construction is about 0.9km.
